Hong Kong pics!

Finally, my pictures of Hong Kong. This is only a few of them but it is very slow going putting these pictures into the blog. If that one picture shows up twice, it's not my fault. I have no idea why it disappeared or where it went. Mike is here now, jetlagged. He's sleeping on the couch. He will probably be awake at 2 or 3 in the morning. Too bad it's so hard to see the cool new hat I bought on Lamma Island. It is a beautiful sky blue with little flowers sprinkled on it. I love it and it's great for work. Have a great day everyone.

This picture I put here twice but it disappeared on me. You'd think by now I would know how this program works but I don't.

Hong Kong

This is a beach in Hong Kong. I think it is called Repulse Bay.

Sedano Square on Macao. This place is very Portuguese and definitely has the feel of being in Europe.

Holidays, yea!

Grand Theatre (with the odd roof) is in the background, viewed from Peoples' Square.

It is very early Sunday morning April 29th and I am off work for a week. Mike arrives here this afternoon so we will be sightseeing again. I just discovered my brother Joe's blog at joefortesworld.blogspot.com I'll have to ask him how he does his pics. They look great. My camera cable and battery recharger have made their way back to Shanghai but not to me yet. I'll post again this afternoon to show my HongKong pics. For now here are a few odd pics that I think I haven't showed before.

I just re-read my last posting. That walk from one ferry dock to the other ferry dock was about a 2 hour walk without the stop for a drink (of course it was Coke, Wendy). And I still don't have my things back from Hong Kong but a friend of a friend has picked it up and is coming to Shanghai next week. So I will be able to show you those pictures.
Guess what I had to do today. It was time to get rid of the overused rice from the sensory table and so the aiyi was asked to dispose of it. The aiyi told the other teachers about it and one came to see about using it but when I told her it was old and our children had been playing it for far too long already, of course she didn't want it. Then I heard 2 aiyis talking about it (yes I recognized their talk in Chinese) and I asked Diana exactly what was happening and blah blah blah. So I repeated that it had to go in the garbage. Diana finally tells me the aiyis can't throw it in the garbage because the gods would be angry with them (rice - food, you know). So I had to throw it in the garbage so the gods could be angry with me and not them. It was all really quite hilarious.
The temperature was 28 degrees celsius today so I had on some summer clothes but it is supposed to be only 18 tomorrow and raining so it is not quite summer yet.
I have to get ready for a wedding shower now. We have had 2 babies born and 1 expected in about 2 weeks, since Dec. and one of the teachers is off to Hawaii to get married while we are on holidays the first week of May. Talk to you later.

Hong Kong is beautiful

Well, I spent 4 wonderful days in Hong Kong and at the moment don't have a picture to show you. I seem to have left my camera cable and my battery recharger there. So for now you will just have to take my word that it is beautiful. On Friday we went to Lamma Island which is quite small - we walked from one ferry dock to the other ferry dock. It was very beautiful, had a lovely little beach, an interesting old village and jungle like vegetation. We had a drink at the inn on the beach which was about a third of the way through our walk. From there it was a steep climb, almost as bad as climbing the great wall. The view was fantastic. Unfortunately there is some sort of wind power plant there and does detract from the scenery.
On Saturday we went to Macau which is very interesting. We went to Sedano Square and did the walking tour in that area. The tour is not well marked and we did get lost on the back streets but a taxi soon had us where we belonged. It is a Portuguese settlement and although the literature says the food is a Chinese Portuguese fusion we didn't find any such thing. We did eat in a Portuguese restaurant however which was very charming, old world decor and good food. We then headed off back to the ferry dock. And, oh yes, if you ever find yourself in Hong Kong and buying a ferry ticket to Macau, BUY A RETURN TICKET! We almost got stranded there overnight. The gods were smiling opn us however and we did get back to the Mainland that night.
On Sunday, we took at Grayline Tour of the city. We loved it and we do have some beautiful pictures from the top of Victoria Peak overlooking the city. I hope one day I will be able to show them to you. We went to a temple, the Stanley Market, the Peak and strolled on a few streets including the street with all the restaurants. We also went to Aberdeen fishing village which was apparently the beginning of Hong Kong. You wouldn't want to live the way those people do. Stanley Market was much like the markets here in Shanghai but there were a number of stalls that sold Western style clothes and in larger sizes so I did get myself a 2 piece top. I might have bought more but Claire and I wanted to walk over to the nearby beach which I think was Repulse Bay.
On Monday we wandered the streets around our hotel in Kowloon City and discovered a lovely park within a park. The outer park was a beautiful spot with a number of areas for children to play and the inner park was Kowloon Walled City Park. Apparently this was at one time a very run down drug haven and now it is beautiful, peaceful and serene.
Monday night we were back home in Shanghai. It was a great weekend, we barely noticed Easter and felt very relaxed the whole time we were in Hong Kong.

Happy Easter Everyone

I'm off to Hong Kong for the long weekend to see the little city. (compared to Shanghai, that is) I have an awful cold, I'm so annoyed because I have not been sick since last fall and now I get sick. I missed a Chinese lesson last night which was about ordering in restaurants so the class went to a Chinese restaurant afterwards to practise what they learned. I was going to send this blog last night but my computer wouldn't work and now I have to get ready for work so I will send a longer blog when I get home from Hong Kong. Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy your Easter.
